SPAR just issued an 8-K today (http://biz.yahoo.com/e/070710/spar8-k.html) and it looks like they initiated a poison pill. I've never been through this so is there any trading consequences from it? They took a small bath today

in answer to my question above, apparently not a lot. I was wondering if someone accumulating shares would sell them off, which may still happen. But besides a low RSI, the chart on this one is looking pretty bad but this may be due to their recent 3:2 split and the MACD is trying to turn up. It won't take much to signal an attractive entry point so a good earnings report might turn out pretty good...I think they've been busy this quarter :p

...and it's tanking
the estimate of .22 pps was pre 3.2 split meaning that it would have been adjusted to .146 so they beat it...go figure

I just can't figure out SPAR and FRPT. The market does some strange things with these companies who's biz is based on gov contracts. They all have millions and millions of dollars of biz lined up for years....but their stocks go down. AAARRGGGGG I'm down so badly on FRPT now, I'll be holding it forever...to bad they don't at least pay some divy's.

I'm listening to their webcast earnings conference right now. They just said they are going to PR a 1mm share buy back later today...with a 27mm float... and they are up huge in all areas. They are also suppling the chassis to BAES for their trucks.
I couldn't help it and had to double down @12.80

Good Luck! :)
I think we're going to be holding these for awhile though.

I just flipped out of both SPAR and FRPT until these bear runs are over...just couldn't take the pain any longer and hit my 20% limit on both :(

I'm in @ 12.35. This is crazy! FRPT too!
Added a few more, cost average now 12.25.
I don't really watch Cramer but, saw the "Lightning Round" recap on Yayhoo! and now he doesn't like this. He was such a pumper on this and now, well what's changed? That had to bring some sellers. The short interest is almost 16%.

I hope to jump back in at the bottom but I'm not sure this is it. They had a great quarter and conference call but as long as the MMs are going to be printing shares, its not going to move up. I think this might be a new style short squeeze

Dear God, bear markets can burn your ass.....we're all going to be holding for awhile. Just keep an eye out for the bottom of this bear, it shouldn't last much longer. I'm thinking the recovery will start tomorrow, the market seems to like Fridays. A lot of people now have money to spend on stocks they foolishly sold....patience is a good thing to have.

I jumped back in with 100 @ 11.50 so I saved a hundred bucks on the ride down. I tried when it touched the gap up last feb but couldn't get filled at the low and had to chase it back up.

SPAR just PR'ed their buy back and its stating to recover now with some really weird numbers going on the LS and L2.
FRPT looks like it's rebounding but I'm not comfortable with the speculation thats going to exist before an order or earnings next month. SPAR seems to be concerned with investor value more so I'm going to stick with them at the moment.

Recovering nicely. I got in with 172@ 11.71 :)

yep, I like the recovery today and think that the street was fooled by it. As soon as they can change directions without loosing face, they will be back on board.
I listened to their conference call and there is no down side I can see except a possibility of parts shortages on some chassis, like the MRAP programs. They wouldn't say they have BEAS but did say they won't PR anything until they have the purchase order (contract) in hand ;)

I'm already out. The buyback announcement and recovery enabled a nice flip. Don't like the idea of holding either SPAR or FRPT right now. Though I can see this getting back to $15 in no time. The short interest just scares me too much to keep holding. Good luck y'all.

What is wrong with this stock? I dropped that LOSER frpt and now this one is sailing downward.
I cant stand it, because of this and frpt, it is killing me! my others are doing great but this is ridiculous. i dont know if i should drop it now or hold out for it to go up?????
any suggestions?!
thanks!

Well, if you dropped that loser FRPT, then why would you turn around and buy this one? They are pretty much joined at the hip, as Spartan Motors builds the capsules for FRPT's vehicles.
Anyways, I jumped in this one again on Friday, its definitely oversold and way undervalued. Not sure how long I'll hold, but we should see a correction/bounce thats likely to take us back up to at least $15/$16 levels.
Good Luck!!!

Hi, i bought both LOSERS at the same time. Believe me after my experience with Frpt i would not have bought into spartan too!!
I think i will hold out a little bit, it just makes me mad that i have money tied up in this that could go towards other things and be earning instead of consistently LOSING!!

Indeed, I got stuck holding FRPT for much longer than I wanted to. I was happy when I was finally able to sell for a $200 loss....much better than the $2500 loss I was looking at. I give on any stocks that count on the Gov for PPS rises.

Hmm, I've made plenty with both of these. Few times with SPAR and bunch of times with FRPT. Not trying to brag just, maybe you need to re-think your strategy? FRPT's been one of the easier stocks to make money on. ARe you buying at the end of a run? Do you use charts for indications on buy/sell?
I'm with you Titan. SPAR's starting to look good to me. Wish I had some money. ;)

i bought at a time when frpt was like $25 and it was expected to go up to $30 or so and it just plummeted downward. i sold out when it got (finally) back up to like $24 and change.
i bought spartan the same way. i paid $24 for it and it too has just gone down. i am not going to sell it yet or i forfeit half of my money so it will have to wait.
i dont read charts, i read ibd and i go with what i think will do well-i have done fantastic with aapl, vlo and chk-but sometimes i am way off!
we will see.....now to deal with my other LOSER sirius!!!

You really, really should buy Greencat's video. You'll make up the cost in a matter of days using his trading strategies. If you're going to be playing the market, you better learn to understand the charts or you're going to get burned.....just my 2 cents.

And I'm right with ya on the rest of what you said. Over the past 9 months I've played FRPT several times, but the best was our first ride from levels like where we are now, up to $28.
As for SPAR, I sold the other day when it went above $12 and jumped back in today at $11.35. I was afraid it was going to fall through support at $11, but somehow it managed to hold...lol
But I won't hold long and will likely exit when it gets back to around $12 again.

I have to agree with Thad. Not about the CD, but about reading charts. Even if you perform extensive DD, you'll still want to pick opertune times to get in and out, whether your flipping, day trading, or even holding long term. Because we NEVER simply Buy and Hold, at some point we must all sell, or else whats the point...lol

Hmm... Well, providing it doesn't break $11, then I'd say yes. However, if the market continues to feel the pain, then this could very well drop further. I just got in yesterday and $11.35 and almost dumped it by lunch, as it looked like it was going to fall through into the $10's. I'm afraid if it does fall through $11, then it could very well see $9, so I'll be watching it closely on Monday.

SPAR had a killer PR today and still couldn't manage to gain any ground back. Man, with this under $10 and FRPT dropping to $12.55 today, these things are just in the toilet. The good thing is, if you get in now you should be looking pretty good in a month or two.

This all seems to be great news for the Company. Revenue Up, Gross Profit Up, Earnings Up, Out Pacing Guidance… Is there anything I should know about these guys? They seem like they are finally making the push towards being the market leader they have claimed they were going to be for the last several quarters. Seasonality suggests the best is yet to come, so there is definitely cause for optimism. I guess time will tell, but SGRP is definitely back up on my screen.
