Specs; mostly stock Neon ACR Coupe, one of about 300 built in '98. To take ownership of a new ACR you had to have a valid SCCA drivers license, Chrysler wanted these out on the track competing. The ACR package included a number of items specific to this model, No power options like windows, seats, cruise control etc. Minimal sound deadener to save weight. Heavy duty wheel hubs, NO anti-lock brakes, NO rev limiter, a close ratio transaxle with higher (numerical) final drive 3:91 I believe. Sway bars front & rear and 3 way adjustable Koni struts. The struts are expensive to replace too! I'm on my second set.
The only modifications I've made are mopar high rate springs which lowered the car about an inch. (and increased ride discomfort about 10 inches)
It is a fun car, I have an old magazine road test somewhere and the car tested pulled one lateral G on the skid pad with only a tire and wheel change. Non DOT tires but I won't tell.
I've always been into older muscle cars, but this one day at the track opened my eyes to a whole new world of automotive delight.

Wow that is really fascinating, I had no idea they made a track version for the Neon. That is actually really cool. I wonder if this version of the Neon paved the way for the SRT-4?

Hey guys I forgot I posted one of my laps from the day on Youtube. It's a 2 1/2 mile track, this lap is 1:58 which makes my average speed about 73 mph. Top speed was on the back straight and was 105...it's just a 4-popper Neon...most of the way around the track my right foot was planted firmly to the floor. If you want to see what a little more horsepower can do check out the second video with a Porsche 911 making a 1:29 second lap. Well hear she goes 1996 mustang. I have had her since 96 & will probably never sell this car.
My car is probably the complete opposite of ever other car here....she might looks fast.....but she's not..

Don't have an actual pic of one of my rides, but here is the official version Chevy put out when this was released and mine is this color-and style.
It's got a little 400 hp all aluminum Corvette motor under the hood and it acts like it too. It's a blast to drive (my wife is the main driver of this one) and I will post more actual pics once time permits. My other ride is a 2004 A8L Audi (same color as the Blazer) and I will post pics of it also soon.
Enjoy the thread.
