Globalstar Announces Launch Dates for Second-Generation Constellation Satellites
7:00a ET January 19, 2010 (GlobeNewswire)
Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments and consumers, today announced that the first 90-day window to launch six Globalstar second-generation satellites will open on July 5, 2010. Globalstar plans to launch the new satellites during this time. The satellites will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan using the Soyuz launch vehicle. The human-rated Soyuz is used to ferry astronauts and cosmonauts to the International Space Station and Globalstar has previously used it eight times to successfully launch satellites into orbit.
"Confirmation of this second-generation satellite launch window is another significant milestone for the company as we prepare for our new constellation," said Tony Navarra, President of Global Operations, Globalstar, Inc. "Our validation tests of the satellite subsystems and thermal vacuum tests have been successfully completed and we are on schedule to begin launching our satellites this summer."
In the summer of 2007, Globalstar signed a launch services contract with Arianespace for Globalstar's second-generation constellation. These satellites will be integrated with the Globalstar satellites launched on the Soyuz in 2007. Globalstar's customers will experience improvements in service as the new satellites are progressively brought into commercial service. Once the new constellation is deployed, Globalstar expects its service will return to the industry-leading voice quality and reliability levels that customers received prior to 2007. The new constellation also secures Globalstar's space segment beyond 2025, providing the Company with the ability to deliver both legacy and enhanced next-generation satellite voice and data services for at least the next 15 years.

10:30a ET January 27, 2010 (GlobeNewswire)
Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments and consumers, today displayed the first of the Company's new second-generation constellation satellites nearing completion at the Thales Alenia Space satellite manufacturing facility in Rome, Italy. A group of Globalstar investors and members of the media gathered to view the pre-launch manufacturing preparations of the new satellites. The group also met with senior company officials from Globalstar, satellite manufacturer Thales Alenia Space and launch services provider Arianespace. Globalstar expects to begin launching its second-generation constellation this summer and a 90-day launch window for the first of four launches of six satellites each has been scheduled to begin on July 5, 2010.
Photos accompanying this release are available at GlobeNewswire, Inc. GlobeNewswire, Inc.
"Completing construction of the first of our production satellites and scheduling the window for our satellite launch are two key and highly essential operational milestones for Globalstar," said Tony Navarra, President, Global Operations for Globalstar, Inc. "To complete the design and manufacture of a new second-generation satellite network is a time consuming and often painstaking process that has taken nearly four years to deliver. Beginning this summer we expect this process to culminate in the launch of the first of our new satellites. I would like to thank the large and diverse team of engineers and production managers from Thales Alenia Space and Arianespace for helping Globalstar make this possible."
Globalstar Executive Chairman Jay Monroe added, "Our milestone accomplishments are a testament to the collaborative efforts of a large group of world-class technology and financial partners who have come together to build our next-generation network. In addition to our satellite manufacturer and launch provider I would also like to acknowledge the dedication and diligent efforts of those at Coface, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, Natixis, Calyon, CIC, Hughes, Ericsson, Brown Brothers Harriman and Lazard who also share our vision of Globalstar's future."
"With the integration of the second-generation constellation now under way, I would like to say that I am especially proud of our long-standing collaboration with Globalstar. Together, we had to meet a number of challenges last year, and that clearly reflects our ability to work together as a team, smoothly and efficiently," said Luigi Pasquali, CEO of Thales Alenia Space Italy.
In the fall of 2006, Globalstar contracted Thales Alenia Space for the design, manufacture and delivery of up to 48 new Globalstar second-generation satellites. These AIT steps are integral to the final acceptance of the satellites prior to delivery to the launch site.
In the summer of 2007, Globalstar signed a launch services contract with Arianespace for Globalstar's second-generation constellation. Four launches of six satellites each are to be launched using the Soyuz launch vehicle. These satellites will be integrated with the eight Globalstar satellites launched on the Soyuz in 2007.
Globalstar's customers should expect to experience improvements in service as the new satellites are progressively brought into commercial service. 7:00a ET February 10, 2010 (GlobeNewswire)
Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, government, and consumers, announced today that it has commenced construction of a satellite tracking station in Botswana, located in Southern Africa. The station will be used to complete the Globalstar satellite telemetry control unit (TCU) network that is to be used to monitor and control the Company's second-generation satellite constellation scheduled for launch beginning this summer.
"Constructing the final piece of our satellite telemetry control network is another milestone event as we prepare for the launch of our new satellites," said Tony Navarra, President, Global Operations, Globalstar, Inc. "We are very pleased, as our launch plans are proceeding as expected. New Enhanced SPOT Messenger Summons First Emergency Rescue
8:01a ET March 2, 2010 (GlobeNewswire)
SPOT Rescue Alert (SRA) -- In February, Brent Martin was enjoying an off-road motorcycle trip with a group of riders across a remote desert near Lake Isabella in Southern California. He came upon an injured rider who just crashed her motorcycle. Martin stated that he had only limited cell phone coverage, and was unsuccessful maintaining a mobile phone connection and explaining their location to local 911 dispatchers.
"Being in the middle of nowhere limits your ability to effectively communicate your geographic location, even with cell phones," said Brent Martin, a motorcycle enthusiast and member of a Los Angeles County Search and Rescue team. "Everything looks the same out there and you're miles from any streets signs."
According to Martin, the motorcycle rider was suffering from severe back and rib pain, and her condition was getting worse. After multiple failed attempts with his cell phone, Martin said that he pulled out his hand-held SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger(TM), removed the safety cover and pressed the SOS button.
"This was the first time I had to use the SPOT in an emergency situation, and it worked incredibly. I had purchased my SPOT from REI in case a situation like this happened in a remote area," continued Martin. "SPOT is a must have in my gear bag at all times. It's small, light and easy to use. It's also a great way to keep family and friends reassured that you are safe in the outdoors."
The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger(TM) transmits geolocation messages over a global satellite network from remote locations around the world. SPOT can also transmit an SOS, emergency distress alert in critical, life-threatening situations notifying an emergency response center of one's location and need for immediate help.
The GEOS International Emergency Response Center received the SOS alert from Martin's SPOT device with the latitude and longitude of the motorcycle riders. Coordination with Kern County Sheriff's office had a medical helicopter on the scene within 20 minutes of the first SOS transmission. Martin stated that the first responders quickly stabilized the injured woman, who was air-transported to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
The new handheld SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger(TM) is the next generation in the SPOT product line following the award-winning SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker(TM). Feature rich enhancements in the new SPOT Messenger offer advanced GPS performance in a smaller, more compact size. Since its inception in November 2007, the SPOT product line has helped initiate more than 550 rescues in 51 countries on land and at sea.

DeLorme Places Large Initial Order for New GPS Satellite Communicators From Globalstar
12:00p ET March 11, 2010 (GlobeNewswire)
Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments and consumers, today announced it has received a substantial order for the initial delivery of more than 15,000 SPOT Satellite Communicators from DeLorme, an innovation leader in mapping and GPS technologies. The introductory order will address DeLorme's retail distribution channel fill requirements. Earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the two companies jointly announced the introduction of the world's first rugged, handheld GPS and satellite communicator product. The DeLorme Earthmate(R) PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator is the first handheld GPS navigation device capable of sending customized text messages even when the user is operating far beyond the range of cellular communications. The product is expected to be ready for general availability beginning in late spring.
"The DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w with the SPOT Satellite Communicator provides customers with the utility of a sophisticated handheld GPS device combined with SPOT's global satellite messaging and tracking capability," said Peter Dalton, Chief Executive Officer of Globalstar Inc. "We were very pleased with the reception this new product received when it was unveiled at CES and today's announcement further demonstrates the level of market excitement and potential pent up demand there is for a handheld GPS device capable of sending customized text messages and location coordinates from virtually anywhere in the world."
The revolutionary SPOT Satellite Communicator, designed exclusively for the new PN-60w, merges SPOT satellite message functionality with DeLorme's state-of-the-art GPS mapping utility. Together, this integrated solution offers broad messaging capabilities enabling users to send freeform text messages using the PN-60w's keyboard to select individuals or groups, even when the user is far beyond the range of traditional terrestrial-based wireless communications.
Established SPOT technology allows real-time location updates and the ability to summon help in an emergency. Custom messages and waypoints can easily be shared with social networking sites like SPOTadventures.com, Geocaching.com, Twitter, and Facebook. As an emergency back-up, the SPOT Satellite Communicator has stand-alone capability to send location-based SOS notification to an emergency response center.
