Default Best Stock to jump on?

I am new to the stock market. I was wondering what would be the best stock to jump on for a short term and Long term? Any replies would be helpful. Thanks

Quinton, Thats a tough question and would depend on several factors such as what is your time frame and your appetite for risk. I would strongly recommend keeping most of your funds in a listed stock and away from the penny world.

A few stocks I like:

PALM ... Pre is a hit and company is to report earnings this week. Also many think Palm will be bought by a bigger company and could bring a pps a good bit higher than where it is now.

BAC ... With the secondary offering now complete Bank Of America should be strong and able to survive the storm.

AAPL ... This would be a longer term play but its hard to bet against the Iphone and Ipod. Apple is the king right now.

HBAN is still priced very low @ 4.40 but some think it will climb back to Bank Of America levels.

SLM ... Also very attractive at these levels. Another longer term play.

TSTR @ 1.76 is where I put alot of my funds last week. They are about to launch their new satellite and many think this one will make them the one to watch in communications.

The above are just for consideration. Do your own research before buying anything.
Best of luck and WELCOME to Stockmarketcats.com

Quinton you've asked the $100,000 question everybody wishes they knew the answer to. A personal recommendation is to stay away from penny stuff and look for beat down big board companies that are set to bounce back as the economy improves.
Welcome to here.

For a new time investor I would begin with those companies that are well known and pay an above average dividend (5%+). These names would include like ED, T, VZ, BMY

you can try some volatile stocks but of course, that means higher risk...you can also trade ETFs like FAS and FAZ.

Talking My Pick For the WeeK – LVCA

My Pick For the WeeK – LVCA

My new Gold Pick - Lake Victoria Mining Company, Inc. (OTCBB: LVCA) - could be one of the top Gold picks I introduce in all of 2009!
The Company appears to have an awesome portfolio of interests within one of the top most productive mining regions in the world!
Currently LVCA holds five Mineral Property Purchase/Option Agreements for seven different licenses with Geo Can Resources Company Limited (Tanzania) (“Geo Can”), These licenses are encompassed in four gold projects.
