Default Large Spreads

I am wondering why on some of these pink sheets and otcdbb stocks why the bid and ask spread is so large? the ask is why up and there and according to that number I am up but the bid is extremely low so when i go sell it i only get the bid so i would lose money. What causes their to be such a big spread?

Thanks,

it's a way for the MMs to slow down the trading of a stock. you don't want to sell and others don't want to buy at those levels.

wide spreads are also known as thinly traded stocks that are not widely held - and like scmfinance posted, there is no one to buy/sell on the opposite side of the trade... have heard that if you want to buy a stock with a wide spread that you set a price between bid/ask that you want to pay rather than letting market dictate....
