July 24 (Bloomberg) -- CIT Group Inc., the commercial lender seeking to avoid collapse, said it may still need to seek bankruptcy protection even if its debt tender offer succeeds because of the risk of a draw down of loans by its customers.
CIT boosted the early delivery payment to $50 per $1,000 of bonds tendered, it said in a regulatory filing today. The New York-based lender announced a $3 billion rescue financing from its bondholders this week and asked holders of $1 billion in floating-rate notes due next month to swap their claims for 82.5 cents on the dollar.
Even if the bond tender succeeds, “the risk that the $3 billion loan facility doesn’t provide the liquidity the company is seeking” and it can’t restructure its liabilities, may force CIT to seek bankruptcy protection, the company said today.

Yup, the writting is on the wall. At least they've been honest about it. Many companies of late release stories of finance deals on the brink and then go BR.
This is a good opportunity for selling short if you're into that.
