Default Tasr

A nice upward trend on this stock, good volitility and volume, and a fairly low PPS. It has been ion an upward swing since April and has almost doubled in PPS, hitting a 52 week high of over 17.00 PPS over the last few days. Over the past couple of days it has dropped at 15.00 PPS so it might be a good buy opportunity. It will be releasing second quarter earnings on Monday the 23rd, and has been getting a lot of new orders. Any thoughts?

I was not understanding this at first. Why would a stock fall after reporting strong profits for the quarter?

Quote:
NEW YORK -
Taser International Inc. shares sank Tuesday, a day after the stun gun maker reported a larger second-quarter profit than Wall Street expected.

Taser swung to a profit for the quarter, earning 6 cents per share on $25.9 million in sales.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected the Scottsdale, Ariz., company to report 4 cents per share in profit.

The stock fell 3.4 percent Monday, and was down $1.28, or 7.7 percent, at $15.28 Tuesday afternoon. Trading was nearly three times busier than normal.
Then the analyst says this

Quote:
Jefferies & Co. analyst Matthew McKay said the stock is falling because investors are wondering what Taser will do to sustain its growth. Shares more than doubled in value this year and reached a two-year high of $19.36 Monday morning.

"I think it's a combination of profit taking and just valuation," he said. "It's questioning what the growth rate of the business is going to be."
That $19.36 is where it gapped up that day then imediately started tanking.
Kind of confusing to me.

Anyway they said that the orders for the product will keep coming this year and that price should rise although sometimes volitle.
He sais it is set for growth and keeps a 'buy' rating with $20 target.

"He said part of the growth will come from sales of Taser's new C2 personal protection device including sales to foreign agencies.

Taser introduces its new product... the Taser C2

Demonstration of the Taser C2

Taser International of Scottsdale has recently started selling the new Taser C2. It is the "civilian" version of the popular device used by many law enforcement agencies to subdue criminals without deadly force.

The C2 uses the same amount of voltage as the Tasers used by police, but only shoots up to 15 feet as opposed to 25 feet, like police tasers. The new model comes in several different colors and the price starts at around 300 dollars.

For the last two years, Taser International has been dealing with many lawsuits and falling stock prices as questions were raised about the safety of their product. Although there are lawsuits still pending, company officials have been encouraged by their record in court cases. Chairman Tom Smith says they are undefeated in 52 suits that have brought against Taser.

The new C2 has been in some retail stores in the Valley since late July, and the company says there is a lot of demand for non-lethal protection devices. The company requires anyone who buys the C2 to have a background check before the device can be activated. Once the background check is complete, the user will enter a code, which will allow the C2 to work. Taser says the background checks are in place so that they can help reduce any misuse of the device.

With the price at $14.30 off that $19.36 high the other day, it might be a good place. Provided the market doesn't drag this one down as well.

tsar has been the benefactor of a couple of recent "cramer pumps" (TM) and is now out of favor with him. While his followers are notorious for over reaction, I look back on a couple of small gaps in May and June and my words about spar echo in my head... "I don't think they are going to go down so far as to cover a gap from last Feb"... they did just that yesterday @ 11.50
And your right...it's risky to try and call a bottom in these conditions

Closed with a black candle Fri but it's sitting nice on top of the 20 ma. It's pinned down by the trendline and pushing up against the 50 ma. If it can break through that resistance with some good volume it might be a go to start moving up and continue it's previous uptrend for the long term. If it does break through, probably wait to see if it confirms and holds above it with another candle or two to make sure it's not a head fake. Sto is pointed up with some room to go. RSI sitting right at 50. MACD histo is popping it's head above the zero line. Also a positive divergence on the last two troughs of the MACD hist. Accum/dist is holding decent with a pos divergence. Don't know what will happen but worth watching imo.

Ahead of the Bell: Taser Upgraded
Thursday August 30, 8:33 am ET
Analyst Upgrades Taser, Saying Company Still Has Only a Small Share of Its Market

NEW YORK (AP) -- Taser International Inc. shares rose in premarket electronic trading Thursday after a Merriman Curhan Ford analyst upgraded the stun-gun maker's shares, saying the company faces no real competition and has a lot of room to increase its sales.

Eric Wold raised his rating to "Buy" from "Neutral." He said demand is growing, and Taser's revenue from small orders has nearly doubled over the past two years, as the company is getting more repeat business.

Wold said Taser's smaller orders are worth about $18 million to $20 million per quarter, up from $10 million to $12 million in 2005. The analyst said Taser could see much greater sales to law enforcement in the future.

"We estimate Taser has penetrated only 20 percent of the domestic law enforcement market and less than 5 percent worldwide," he said.

Taser sells its X26 device to law enforcement agencies, but Wold said sales of its new personal protection device, the C2, are also improving.

"We remain optimistic about the long-term potential for the Taser C2 considering the strength of the consumer handgun market," he said. "In our opinion, wider distribution of the Taser C2 coupled with a smaller and less expensive model could significantly enhance Taser's position to capture more of the consumer market."
