| | Howdy Hi, I'm Walter and I'm a web developer / student living in Texas. I'm 24 and have been a casual, long-term investor for a few years now but am eager to learn day trading and techniques to speed things up. Long-term is just too slow.
The only stock I have right now is AAPL. It's been good to me, and I'm a fan of the company and believe it will continue to go up, but penny stocks and day trading seems like too much fun to pass up. |

| | Re: Howdy Unless you have been extremely successful as a web developer, you might want to consider swing trading rather than day trading... In Day trading you have to have at least a 25,000 minimal margin coverage to be classified as a daytrader. and you will be classified as a daytrader if you make more than 3 round trips in any 5 day period. a round trip being buying and selling a stock in the same day.
Swing trading you try to pick stock you can hold a week, but at least a day....
But welcome to the board and good luck. |

| | Re: Howdy Thanks Harold. That kind of margin would nearly clean my life savings out, so you're right: swing trading.
As you can see, I'm still getting the jargon down and learning to analyze all aspects of financial charts. I have a long way to go, and am considering buying Gary Witt's training DVD. I have a few books, but they're written about a decade ago and aren't really relevant. |

| | Re: Howdy First off let me warn you it is not a DVD that Gary sales! It doesn't seem to work with a Mac.... but I will assure you it is worth the expense of purshasing it.
Just don't expect to watch it quickly and become a pro... Gary covers way to much information to be absorbed in just a couple viewings... at least in my case! I was so overwhelmed with the information.... I knew close to nothing about T/A .... and felt like I had absorbed a ton by the time I finished watching the 3,5 hours of the cd..... but knew that I had only gotten the tip of the iceburg..... I watch it in shour bursts now and with every watching another piece of the puzzle falls into place.
I think it is a good investment! One you couldn't go wrong with... Again Welcome to SMC and good luck with your trading. |
