restricted stocks

First let me say I use TD Waterhouse and used to only play the Canadian market (tsx and venture) In the past month or so I have started to look into the US market. The problem im having is that I find some US penny stocks are restricted and I am not able to put in bids online. It requires me to call in and have an order placed by someone from Waterhouse. When I asked about this I was told that it is a security issue and there’s no way around it. I never had this problem when I traded Canadian stocks. I was wondering what online stock brokerage do some of you guys use and do you have the same problem? Thank you

there is a broker thread in dd section, which may answer your question as to what brokers some are using and is where your thread is being moved.. and yeah - brokers restrict stocks here for some of us too.. although - am not so sure it is always for the investor's protection and am inclined to think that sometimes it is done as a way to manipulate a stock....
