Cool Any musicians here?

As much as I love trading, my #1 passion has been, and will always be music. When I was a little kid I'd fake sick so I could stay home from school and crank up Guns 'n' Roses' Appetite for Destruction and jump around the living room with a broom, pretending to be Slash. Anyway, the rebellious piss-ant attitude stuck with me and in 5th grade I got my first guitar, and soon after began to crank out Black Sabbath songs from my 15 watt Peavy Rage 158 combo amp. 8th grade rolled around and I formed my first band Rapture with 2 friends from school, and we had our first gig at a school dance where we played Black Sabbath and Metallica songs. Then in high school we reformed with another guy who took over vocals so I could concentrate solely on guitar. By junior year we were local celebrities, and the weed, booze, and girls were flying at us. Soon after we broke up.

In senior year I was asked to join a band from Tennessee who moved up here to the Lansing area. We played lots of shows in Detroit opening for bands like Biohazard, Crowbar, Anthrax, Dimmu Borgir, Dream Theater, and Sevendust. It wasn't 6 months later when we broke up.

Poor Charles Darwin would never be in another band with such accomplishments.

LOL Anyway I'm a little rusty here but here's a video of me playing.

I've gotten back into practice in recent months and really need to make some new videos so I can delete these old ones. They're almost embarrassing. But they're fun to watch because I see the progress I've made.

Influences: Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag Darrell, Rocky George, and Joe Satriani mostly.

Equipment: Jackson guitars, Crate amps, and Boss effects pedals. I also have a Digitech GNX4 multi-effects processor.

Anyway, I'd like to hear some of your stories. What instruments do you play? Who are your influences? Ever played in a band? What's your favorite kind of music?

Right on. What kind of music do you guys play?

Lately I've been itching to get a new band together and play some shows at local bars. Even if we had to tone it down and play 80's hair I'd be down. Actually I think playing some old Def Leppard, Motley Crue, L.A. Guns, and Great White would be a blast! Get buzzed, play some tunes, slow it down for the ladies, then close out the set and go get drunk on the lake. Man, I love summer...

We stick to a more new age type style. We don't really cover but may throw one in Friday to make it a little interesting, maybe a muse song.

DUDE! I'm a rocker too! You've named off a lot of my fav stuff. Dream Theater, SevenDust and SymphonyX are my fav bands. I really dig ZakkW and Dimebag (RIP)....huge Pantera fan! I've played drums for over 30 years.....tons and tons of bands over that time. I can't even remember them all. LOL

I've been taking a break for the last year. I was jamming with a couple of great musicians, but they weren't the smartest guys. After a couple of years working on ALL originals, I told them that I was collaborating over the internet. Neither of them use a computer so they didn't understand what I was doing. The one guy told me I was "cheating" on the band and thought I was giving our music away on the web. LOLOLOL We got in a big fight because he is clearly ignorant and DUMB, didn't want to even try and understand, so I packed my drums and left them.

Last year I sold my Ludwigs and went all electronic with a Roland kit. It's a lot more family friendly and I like all the sounds I can get out of it. I run the whole thing into an M-Audio card on my dedicated music PC.

Have you tried any internet collaboration? Check out Musicians Collaboration Studio....I think it's mcs.com....google it. Maybe we can do some jamming together sometime! It's pretty easy to do with the internet these days. You could send me guitar tracks and I can put drums over them.

Awesome man! I'll check it out for sure! Drummers are hard to find. LOL Right now I do all my recording on my GNX4 which has a built in drum machine. I guess I could delete the drum tracks and send you the WAV files if that works. At least for starters...

My main limitation right now is the drum machine because it keeps the same tempo throughout the entire song so I'm limited to that one tempo. I've looked into programing drum tracks but that seems like a **** ton of work. LOL

I'll check out that site right now. I'd definitely be interested in collaborating.

I've been playing guitar for years off and on. Your high school experience sounds much like mine.. Played quite a few local bars, never quite to the stage of opening for bigger bands. Old Guns N Roses were great and I still remember the first time seeing Sevendust live they always put on a great show.
