The co-promotion will begin during the 1st Quarter of 2008. "This agreement solidifies Auriga's commitment to enhance our product portfolio. Currently, over 50% of cephalexin prescriptions are written by Primary Care Specialists which makes Keflex® 750 mg a highly synergistic addition to Auriga's current primary care promotional efforts," said Philip S. We rate AURIGA LABORATORIES INC (ARGA) a SELL due to continued losses and cash burn over the past
few years. Furthermore, recent product terminations, exposure to intense competition and industry
consolidation could hamper growth in the near future.
HIGHLIGHTS
Disappointing bottom-line performance and continued cash burn. Since its inception in 2005, ARGA has been
consistently reporting operating and net losses. Following this trend, the company recorded $0.53 million of
operating loss and $1.24 million of net loss for Q2 FY07. Moreover, ARGA has also been unable meet its cash
requirements through internally generated funds. Inability of the company to turn around its financial
performance could restrain growth.
Product termination. Following the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) warning that it shall take
enforcement action on companies that market any drug product containing guaifenesin, ARGA has decided to
discontinue manufacture and cease shipping of Extendryl G and HC Extended Release tablets and Zinx
Congestion Kit products. As a result, the company’s sales return reserve could continue to increase, which in
turn could likely constrain revenue growth in the near future. Moreover, ARGA’s popular Levall lines of
products are also marketed in the US without FDA approval, and thus face similar risks of termination, subject
to FDA regulatory discretion.
Stiff competition. ARGA is a new player in the pharmaceuticals industry, and as such it faces severe
competition from well established industry giants, who have better brand recognition and broader customer
bases. Moreover, the company’s reach is limited to the US market, which is increasingly undergoing industry
consolidation. This could have an adverse impact on ARGA’s business.
Upside risks to the SELL rating. ARGA displayed strong top-line growth in Q2 FY07, helped by product line
expansion. The company’s consistent focus on new product development and introduction together with the
addition of new sales personnel could further aid revenue growth in the future. Further, ARGA also raised its
full FY07 gross revenue guidance to $30.00 million - $33.00 million.
