Default Zero launches all-terrain electric bike

Zero launches all-terrain electric bike

Santa Cruz, CA - A new electric motorcycle is the first to be suitable for any terrain, from city streets to dirt tracks, say its makers.

Electric bikes have become increasingly popular in the last couple of years. As battery technology improves, some models are boasting a range as great as 150 miles, or speeds of up to 150mph.

Zero Motorcycles has a different focus for its latest model, which has a top speed of 55mph, and a range of just 50 miles.

"The Zero DS is designed for motorcyclists who want the freedom to ride wherever they want," said Gene Banman, CEO of Zero Motorcycles. "It is the world's most versatile electric motorcycle. You can cut across a dirt trail on your way into work or ride the tarmac to your favorite trail-head."

The DS is a fully-electric dual sport bike with tough suspension, rugged wheels and dual sport tires. It's powered by the company's Z-Force drivetrain.

The company says the Zero DS is the first bike to be designed from the ground up as an electric motorcycle. The twin spar frame is made entirely from aircraft grade aluminium.

Trying to cover all the bases, Zero says the DS is completely non-toxic and almost 100 percent recyclable. The power pack consists of lithium ion cells that are clean enough to be landfill approved.

The bike is available here, and costs $9,950.
