Default New guy :)

Hey everyone. Name is Aaron. I'm in the Air Force and have been interested in stock trading for a few years. I am still new, but am getting my feet wet now.

I'm mostly interested in getting a quick buck or two right now, but plan on putting a portion or my IRAs into stocks when I get more familiar with the system, for long term profitability.

I bought a few shares of BP shortly after the news of the company plugging the oil leak. I didn't have much to invest but I thought the news may spark a little rise in the stock. I was right, as they did go up a couple bucks a share but leveled of quickly and started going down again. Again, I am in for a quick profit and get out, so I sold, making less than expected, but still a profit at ~20 bucks.

The most important reason I sold out was that I happened to see an article showing that Apple signed a deal with Liquid Metal (LQMT) so I wanted to get into the stock quick since it was so cheap and I had 300 bucks to spare. that night, LQMT rose fast and I made 20 bucks in an hour. I let it ride for another 2 days, and was shocked when it hit 1.70 a share!!! i bought in at .79 and again at .94. I had 1000 shares total. at this point, I was on the fence whether i should sell at 1.70 or see if it'll ride even higher. i got online the next day and it was at 1.44. At that point, I panicked and sold out at 1.25 due to the 15-minute delay. I still ended up making 300 bucks profit off that stock. I was shocked it could go down so fast.

taking that lesson to heart, I have bee researching even more into these volatile stocks for indicators of a rising stock that I can get a quick profit from.

Found this site, and am looking forward to sharing my experiences and gaining much needed knowledge and friendship!

Thanks for your service to our country!

It sounds like you're on the right track! A couple things, never get greedy and don't regret taking a profit.....even a small one like $20. Stocks always go up or down from where you sell them, get while the gettin is good.

BP is a good long term play. I'm holding a lot of shares at around $29 average. I'm planning on keeping these shares because when the dividend returns I'll be making about an 11% yield. It's really great for a retirement account!
