Default THLD Threshold Pharmaceuticals NASDAQ

Threshold Pharmaceuticals has rocketed higher by more than 300% since Feb. 2 because of positive data concerning its late-stage pancreatic cancer drug candidate, TH-302. Although I rarely care to chase positive phase 2 clinical trial results because they are no guarantee of approval, these particular results have me excited.

Clinical trial data released by the company Tuesday showed that when TH-302 is combined with gemcitabine (known as Gemzar and marketed by Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY ) ), it reduced by 39% the risk of pancreatic cancer getting worse versus taking gemcitabine alone. Best of all, the side effects of the drug were tolerable. A recent string of drug hopefuls has failed to make it past this pivotal mark, with Infinity Pharmaceuticals' drug proving ineffective and combination drug Folfirinox proving very effective but inducing serious side effects. With plenty of room for improvement in late-stage pancreatic treatment, I feel Threshold may still have room to run.

Gary,
I have been reading up on this one and digging up some different things. I originally held 500 at 2.12 and sold off 300. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!!!

The following is my opinion only but it is my opinion this may be the best spec play of 2012. When I get more time this weekend I will try to post some basic reasons behind my thoughts but for now here are some short version reasons.
1. Pancreatic cancer is a huge killer but there is basically no drug that successfully treats this disease. The market for a drug of this type could be in the billions
2. The run up in stock price is normally before the FDA meets. The run we have seen so far isn't anything compared to what will happen as the meeting nears. Then of course if cleared it will get the normal week long run before settling in a trading channel.
3. Take a look at other bio companies as they went for approval. These companies stock increases by 3 fold at a minimum. Some increasing by as much as 20x. I would be surprised if THLD isn't trading above 20 in the next 5 or 6 months.

I'm holding at least some until we see it rocket on approval or sink on denial.

As I said to GreenCat. I think this could end up being the play of the year. There is always 5 or 6 low priced HUGE winners per year and I think this is one of them.

I started my grand-daughters account and I'm buying several low priced stocks that look promising. If just one hits she will end up with a nice account.

Currently holding in that account:

THLD in @ 2.88 HUGE PROMISE
KERX .... Hopefully a huge winner VERY SOON. I remember when this one was only a few cents.
BZH...
ARNA
VVUS... Bought late at 18.70
BAC

Was just looking at ARNA...could potentially mimic THLD's run...
