I've had dual monitors before but using OS/2. Most times it's just a matter of adding a new video card and hooking up the monitor. Nvidia used to have the monitor control software built into their driver and you could choose if it was a completely separate monitor or an extension of your primary desktop.
I'm not sure how it would work using an on board video from the mother board or if xp will support 2 cards. you would probably want to ask the manufacturer before spending any money on it

You can't use an "adapter", you need a "dual head" video card....which most modern nVidia and ATI (AMD) video cards can do. I hope your new PC has a PCIE (PCI Express) 16X slot on the motherboard or a PCIE video card already installed.

PS - I'm a computer hardware nut. I can help will all things computer. ;)

Just realized, you have an ATI X600 video card, it's dual-head. All you need to do is plug an LCD into each port on the back of the card and setup the dual monitors in the ATI (AMD) driver software.....easy. Just make sure the LCD's you buy have a DVI connnector built-in.

You said you wanted to use dual monitors (2 monitors). If that's what you mean, then:

- On the back of the video card there are 2 "exit" ports. These are called "Dual DVI Ports".
- Buy 2 LCD monitors.
- Each LCD monitor must have a DVI "in" port.
- Buy 2 DVI cables (if they are not included with the monitors)
- Plug one monitor to the first "exit" port on on the video card
- Plug the other monitor to the second "exit" port on the video card

Diagram:

Video Card DVI Port 1]------------LCD 1
Video Card DVI Port 2]------------LCD 2

I can't explain it any better in simple terms. LOL

Once you have it all connected, you can use the ATI video driver control panel to configure the monitors. There's probably instructions in Italian somewhere on the web.

Good morning BadThad

Wow… maybe you like to fixed for me!!!
I am a quick learner… but unfortunately it takes longer to understand

I had already phone in all info (yours and DocH) to the software specialist (home injured at the mo) and said that was fine and will look into it, without problems (with those info can't give me any blaa blaa and charge me double..)

thank you very much

you go back to sleep… I am off jogging with the dogs

Glad to help friend! It's pretty easy to setup, you'll see in the end.

My dual monitor system is much easier, I just run 2 PC's on my desk....hehehehe...I cheat. I have 22" and 19" widescreen LCD's on my desk, each fed with a different PC so I can seriously multitask. Behind me, I have 2 more PC's to use if I'm really busy....I'm a computer nut! :D
