SIRI - Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc (NASDAQ Stock)
Doesn't seem right not having a thread for these guys. Looks like things may be heating up a bit. Most are aware of the continuing saga with the possible merger with XM that would probably blow the roof off their pps again if it does happen.

I don't really know, dai. I've been pretty wrapped up in all kinds of things and have definitely slacked off an reading press regarding Sirius. Right off the top of my head, it's probably just the obvious. No news regarding the merger may be good news. Plus, it did hit what appeared to be a technical bottom a couple months ago. Now the chart is shaping up and this may be gaining a bit of momo. You know how it goes, as soon as a stock appears to bottom and still has promise because of possibilities, if it starts to move upward, people start hopping on thinking that maybe "something is up". Sound familiar? I still am bullish on SIRI from these levels, but that's just my opinion.

Re: SIRI - Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc (Naz GS)
In regards to the proposed merger, some analysts say that a merger might not turn these two poorly performing companies that are losing money into a super company, but it would at least become a better performing company that would last at least for another couple of years before if worse came to worse would be bought out by a company like Direct TV or somebody. I think it could only help the the companies. Sirus is in deep with what they are paying Howard Stern, $500 million for a 5 yr deal and an additional 83$ million just added to the pile. A company called Bridge Ratings found that "Stern had about 12 million terrestial radio listeners, about 3 million of those which are employed and 2 million have already come over to Sirius." They did the math, $583 million divided by 3 million listeners comes to about $194 per listener just to compensate Stern's cost. That's alot. Never the less, many say Stern overall has been a good investment for Sirius because, without Stern Sirus wouldn't have that 3 million listeners. Enter xmradio. A merger would benefit both companies in that the additional subscriber base from xm would help in paying for Stern and xm could really use somebody like Stern which is Sirius' advantage over xm who has Opra....and friends. Execs at XM, say that the odds of the company’s proposed merger with Sirius "passing regulatory muster" is a "a coin flip." But I think it will happen eventually.

Invested in SIRI twice (about 2 years a part) and lost money both times. Probably more of a reflection of my inept trading skills but nonetheless, I'm done with this stock no matter what.

Re: SIRI - Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc (Naz GS)
Did anybody hear anything about the rate increases for royalties? Apparently internet radio is having their fees jacked up around 10X the fees they pay now, essentially putting all net radio stations out of business. Now that the RIAA has ruined that part of the market, I heard they are starting to question the fees that satellite radio providers (xm, sirius) are providing and if they are fair. Apparently there is a device that will let you record all of the songs out there as they stream from a satellite. Makes me nervous in this company as we don't know how much the stockholders will react to this kind of deal.
Here's one of the articles (from gizmodo.com):
RIAA Wants the XM-Sirius Merger to Hinge on Their Demands
<!-- google_ad_section_start -->
Say, we haven't heard from the RIAA in a little while. What are they up to? Oh, evil you say? So nothing new. The latest offense is the RIAA mounting a court challenge to force satellite radio companies XM and Sirius to pay them more in licensing fees and not allow users to record songs they hear.
You know, like how when people learned how to tape songs off the radio in the '80s it almost killed the industry. They're trying to avoid another disaster like that. The RIAA is using the proposed XM-Sirius merger to get their anti-consumer message out there, requesting that the whole approval process hinge on their wishes. It's all about you, isn't it RIAA? So selfish.
You've got to love the fact that the RIAA is throwing their weight around to put pressure on a couple of companies that actually get money from music fans. Why work with them when you can send legions of flesh-eating lawyers after anyone who tries to build a successful business model around music?

Arrrggg....just saw all the RIAA stuff Cactus posted. I loath the RIAA! It was created by record company's and producers to generate revenue that the artists will never see.
