If You had To Buy 5 Stocks? Ideas Wanted

The recent market crash has led to what currently appears as super blue light specials on some of our nations top companies.

If you were given $ 250,000.00 and you had to invest it evenly in 5 different stocks for 1 year exactly which would be October 10, 2009 and you only get to keep the profits what would be your 5 stocks?

I will check this hopefully monthly and post updates. Throw them in here and lets see what would happen. Use the current price.

My 5 stocks:

AAPL...... 516 shares @ 96.80 = 49,948.80


GE ... 2325 shares @ 21.50 = 49,987.50


GM ... 10,224 shares @ 4.89 = 49,995.36


GOOG.... 151 shares @ 332.00 = 50,132.00


MS ... 5165 shares @ 9.68 = 49,997.20

Under the above conditions, and with a gun to my head to buy today, these would be my picks. This list would likely be very different if I considered today a bottom.



PG @ 59.56 = 839 shares.

CAT @ 43.13 = 1159 shares

F @ 1.99 = 25,125 shares

NVS @ 43.85 = 1,140 shares

AMD @ 3.81 - 13,123 shares

With everything on sale now I think I would have to go for dividend stocks.
1. FRO @ 31.03 pays 12.7 % dividend (owns oil transport ships) 52 wk high = 72.36
2. BPT @ 66.46 pays 11.07% dividend (Trust company holding interest in Prudhoe bay oil) 52 wk high = 108.40
3. FTE @ 23.07 pays 10.5% dividend (France Telecom) 52 wk high = 39.70
4. PBT @ 16.99 Pays 9.24% dividend (owns Texas oil rights) 52 wk high = 27.80
5. BRP @ 31.75 pays 7.5% dividend (Brazilian Telecom) 52 wk high = 85.55

I'm thinking Intel will have the edge over AMD for sometime with it's Atom & Nehalem technology. The ATI side of the business seem to be making some gains against Nvidia though.
I'm a bit pessimistic for the near future.

I should point out I have next to no investment experience and finances, and currently hold no positions in anything. :D

This does seem like as good a time to start as any, and I'm willing to make my first mistake under these conditions.
I'm thinking there are many potential deals out there, and obviously am looking to diversify.

You know....I've been thinking about this since you posted. There's just sooooooooo many stocks it's hard to nail down 5 for me. LOL The trick is finding the very, very low PE stocks with prices heavily down. I'd like to seriously consider stocks that have plunged from the $90-100 level. It's almost certain they'll see those levels again in better times.
