Actually that difference is fairly significant, given that the difference between whole numbers (ie - 6 to 7) is a magnitude of 10 times greater in earth shaking power. Fortunately that radioactive water that leaked wasn't bad, given they said there were 3ft wide cracks in the ground in places, doesn't sound like a good place for a nuclear power plant!

I was stationed in Japan years ago and was in a 7.5 and 6.9...fun stuff
