Default Need TV/VCR help!!!!

I got a VCR/DVD combo as a gift. However, this unit does not have RF connections for a coax line. WTF??!!?? How am I supposed to hook this up to record TV if I can't even hook up the coax line??

With the red/white/yellow AV cords I can hook up the outputs to watch dvds and tapes. But how can I hook this up to record TV?? What do I need to buy??? Where do I hook it up??? Do I need an RF modulator?? Do I need more AV cable??

TV is new HDTV
No cable---currently using a standard amplified antanna
Philips VCR/DVD combo from 2007

The only thing I can think of doing is an RF modulator or another AV cable from VCR input to TV input but neither make any sense.

Googling this problem didn't help. The only answer I got was getting a cable box.

If I'm understanding you right your tv only allows rca cables, you want to know how to hook up your coax to the tv. Yes you need a Rf modulator for this. Noy sure if thats the correct name but if you go to the store the will know what you mean.

No..... TV's fine

VCR has a funky coaxial.
VCR's hole labeled coaxial looks like an RCA jack. It's color coded black. Not a typical 'F' coax jack. It looks like you can get an adapter. I'm taking this to Radio Shack. See what they say.

I'm guessing a modulator will do nothing.

Went to Walmart....found the brand of VCR on the shelf....looked at the specs and it said 'Must have cable box or satellite to record TV'. I said OH CRAP!!!

I've never seen one like that! I thought all VCR's had coax inputs.

Let me tell you, those RF converters are too expensive. Last one I bought was like $40 from Radio Shack....but that was like 10 years ago. For that price you can buy a TV Tuner card for your PC, that will turn your PC into a very nice DVR. I have these cards in all my PC's at my house.

Went to Best Buy. They said it won't work. It needs a digital tuner. I wasted hours trying to figure out how to hook up this pile of crap.

I guess with the DTV transition looming, manufacturers made a lot of cheap crap. They weren't ready to put expensive digital tuners in their VCRs. Hopefully a converter box will make my OLD SCHOOL EARLY '90's SYMPHONIC VCR work when the DTV transition occurs. Then for our HDTV, finally finally decided to get cable (cheapest package was $12 for basically just the networks plus some crap like C-span). Sucks 'cause all I really want is ESPN, but I'm not paying $40 to get it right now.

This market needs to turn around fast!! With no ESPN and only one HDTV, I'm sinking below the poverty line.....lol

I was pissed when ABC sold off Monday Night Football to ESPN. Haven't seen MNF in 3 years. Although, now I can see Sunday night games on NBC.
