FiberTower Corporation | About FiberTower
FiberTower Corporation is a backhaul and access transport provider focused primarily on the wireless carrier market. With its extensive spectrum footprint in 24 GHz and 39 GHz bands, carrier-class microwave and fiber networks in 13 major markets, customer commitments from six of the leading cellular carriers, and partnerships with the largest tower operators in the U.S, FiberTower is considered to be the leading alternative carrier for wireless backhaul.
FiberTower was formed in 2000 to address the weakest link in rapidly evolving wireless networks - backhaul. Backhaul is defined as the all-important transport piece between a carrier’s cell site (base station at the cell tower) and its switching facility.
Due to the rollout of mobile broadband access networks, bandwidth demand in the wireless network is rising exponentially, putting considerable strain on a decades-old copper infrastructure designed to backhaul voice traffic. Today, with the advent of wireless data, carriers seek scalable, flexible and cost-effective backhaul alternatives that will support their 3G and 4G broadband initiatives. Such alternatives, including microwave and fiber, are the new evolution in wireless backhaul.

Re: FTWR ... FiberTower Corporation
FiberTower holds the most comprehensive collection of fixed-wireless spectrum assets in the United States, including 750 telecommunication licenses in both 24 GHz and 39 GHz bands, and common carrier licenses in 11, 18, and 23 GHz bands. Often referred to as millimeter wave spectrum, it is ideal for transport as it enables exponentially higher capacity than the mobile spectrum designed for access. Attributes include:
39 GHz footprint covering 99% of the United States
24 GHz footprint in top 77 metros
39/24 GHz portfolio enables more spectral efficiency and better range in major markets than competing fixed wireless spectrum holdings
Common Carrier licenses (11, 18, and 23 GHz) in suburban and rural markets
Average bandwidth per market of 650 MHz, including 740 MHz in top markets

Re: FTWR ... FiberTower Corporation
All I can say is that alternate backhaul is big business right now to avoid the Verizon and Att footprints. I will watch this one closely.

Re: FTWR ... FiberTower Corporation
I'm still kinda new when it come to reading financials, but doesn't this show they have been doing better and better every quarter?
FTWR: Income Statement for FiberTower Corporation - Yahoo! Finance
If they posted pos. this quarter wouldn't that make for a huge jump and it would show this company isn't going under?
Financials are coming out after hours on friday.

Re: FTWR ... FiberTower Corporation
Eric,
Go to PinkSheets.com and look at their SEC filings, the most recent (3Q08) 10K had some positives and negatives.
Positive
Through these master service agreements and other customer agreements, the Company provided services to 2,730 billing sites in 13 markets throughout the U.S. as of September 30, 2008.
Negative
The Company has incurred losses and negative cash flows from operating and investing activities since its inception, and it had an accumulated deficit of $561.7 million as of September 30, 2008
If these two statements do not look better in the 4q, then I would say that this is a quick play at best.
I DO know that companies are using them, mine included, and want to use them more but not privy to the details nor could we act on them either way. Still on the watch list.

Re: FTWR ... FiberTower Corporation
I was reading through last years earnings report and found this.. “We
are pleased to announce the highest quarterly increase in Billing T1s in our history, and
expect greater demand in 2008 driven by increases in mobile broadband usage and new
deployment activity from several wireless carriers. FiberTower is well positioned to
benefit from these industry trends and maintain its position as the leading alternative
provider of backhaul services.”
Lets hope he was right about the greater demand in 2008
