Crash
The equivalent thread on the MM forum cause quite some debate so I Thought It would be a shame to let it slip away.
I read orange's ebook on the crash, you can get it on his website, Quite a good read I recommend it to everyone here

dennis-
I read your book today. Very good job. You make a compelling argument....and connect the dots very well.... Quite frightening actually.... Yes could definitely make money if you prepared for that scenario., and it comes to frition. I don't kinow what I agree and disagree with you on it specifically after reading it....but I recall things on both sides, and if I remember corectly, things I may have disagreed with had not to do with your claim of the event moreorless, but rather a few of the outcome possibly stemming from them...
I learned some new things too...I always like that.
Nice work!

thanks, rtace and grizz- surprised you guys read it. actually, grizz-- i worried that it hadn't really come together-- it's so darn much stuff to watch all at once LOL
oh- i don't know if they'll be doing it or not, but i offered it to the cats for free giveaway here, which is why i didn't mention it here. would be great to see them add some content and their views.

Re: Crash
i just found out my neighbor across the street is a major options and forex trader, good at it too and made lots of cash. he's more of a fundies than tech trader tho so sometimes i had a little trouble keeping up. we agree on the crash except he disagrees abt nss being any big threat (he believes the mm's have such big warchests that they can fend off lawsuits forever-- i disagree).
we got to talking abt usd/jpy, which last thursday dropped to 118 and i said i thought it was headed for 116 (not really analyzed yet tho). he looked at me kinda funny then said, "if that happens, it's over. the crash begins." i couldn't quite follow all he said but the gist of it was, at that value nobody will trust the dollar and we're in deep trouble. maybe somebody else can explain (grizz?? or somebody else??)

Re: Crash
remember the Conway memo- Carlyle Group? "opportunity of a lifetime" when liquidity ends. Sowood just wiped almost all its assets to cover margin calls. in a perfect world, they could have borrowed enough to cover- but nobody trusts the value of their collateral anymore.

Sowood Hedge pretty much D.O.A.
http://finance.yahoo.com/expert/article/business/40885
Death of a hedge fund
[ by Harold Maass of The Week]
...Sowood Capital Management, a hedge fund with $3 billion in assets in June, said that more than half of the fund's value had evaporated with losses in the corporate credit market, and that the remaining $1.5 billion would be liquidated and returned to investors. (The New York Times, free registration required) Sowood said that the sale of assets, to Citadel Investment Group, allowed it to avoid "forced sales at extreme prices." (MarketWatch) "It's mind-boggling," said Bradley Alford of Alpha Capital Management in Atlanta. "This last week, the velocity of losses has picked up dramatically." (Bloomberg)...

It sure has been beaten down since it's IPO....the bear market didn't help it either. I'm starting to think an entry point is close. Watch it with me! I've been keeping tabs on it:
