Vivus Inc.'s (VVUS) drug candidate to treat erectile dysfunction was found safe and effective in a late stage trial, putting the company on course to file a new-drug application with the Food and Drug Administration by early 2011.

Shares were up 9.7% at $9.40 in recent premarket trading. The stock was up 61% this year through Tuesday's close.

Chief Executive Leland Wilson said the findings show Vivus' treatment may work faster and have less side effects than current treatments. "Erectile dysfunction is a significant problem among more than half of all men over the age of 40," he added. "While sales of currently available ED therapies exceed $3.8 billion a year, persistent switching by patients suggests that patients are less than satisfied with current therapies."

The study included 646 patients, who underwent a four-week nontreatment period, followed by 12 weeks using either using a either 50 milligrams, 100 milligrams or 200 milligrams or a placebo. The study found nearly 80% of ****** attempts were successful at a 200-milligram dose, and full efficacy was reported in 30 minutes or less. Efficacy was maintained for all doses from 30 minutes to beyond six hours.

The ED treatment news comes as Vivus plans to shortly file a new drug application for its obesity drug candidate following recent positive results from late-stage studies.

VVUS showing a cup pattern. There is an excellant chance VVUS will complete the cup pattern. Some resistance at $9.00 but I expect it to break through it and make a move to $11.50 or better..

Well they got a huge yes from the FDA advisory panel yesterday and the stock went from a close of around 11.00 to roughly 22.00 in after hour trading.

I would love to have my 8.40 shares back but thats history. Congrats to anyone holding this gem

Dammit! I had these around 8.50ish back then too,\... Maybe CBIS will be at 22.00+ next year or 2 and I WILL HOLD THAT ONE!
