Default JBX - Jack in the Box OKs Stock Split

100% Stock dividend.

Quote:
Tuesday its board approved a two-for-one stock split in the form of a special dividend, but said it will require stockholder approval.

wow...they took a real hit today on good earning. Defiantly worth watching but a stock split isn't really a dividend, is it? Won't they will double their float and your 2 shares will be worth half of what your 1 share was worth...
IF approved, the entry time would be right after the split... there will be a retraction if it plays out like I've seen other splits.

Indeed. How can they call it a "dividend"? LOL

They should use the money to do a buy back. That will drive their price up more then splitting it.

From what I have read if you have a stock dividend it is taxed at the dividend rate instead of the capital gain rate when you sell it. The trick is you need to own it for 60 days prior to the ex date to qualify.

The company does not need to spend cash so it is up to the investor to decide weather to sell for cash or hold for L/T growth.

That's the way I understand it. I may have the tax thing wrong. I was a Finance major not Tax Accounting.

Anyway I thought it would qualify for this board.

oh, yea, it most defiantly fits this board. I was questioning their reasoning and not your post
and on second thought, I guess that when a company pays out a dividend, it's reduced from the share price, too, so it is just another way of paying out a dividend so why call it a stock split? Boy, I'm just full of questions, ain't I :D

I think that was some guy's idea of increasing the liquidity for their depressed share price. Make it cheaper.

Holding a Mar 30/27.50 bear call credit spread on JBX. Will cover the 27.50 (for a small loss) on the short side, and hold onto the 30 Calls today if it shows any strength at all.
